ABOUT THE SCHOOL : An Introduction
Abdul Rahman Kanoo International School (ARKIS) is a bilingual school located in Salmabad, Bahrain, founded by the late Mr. Abdul Rahman Kanoo, a philanthropist, in 1997. Currently, there are around 2,200 students enrolled at ARKIS. It was the late Mr. Abdul Rahman Kanoo’s vision to provide quality, international and balanced education.
He wanted graduates to be responsible active citizens, empowered with knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of an ever changing world and contribute positively to the development of the community and nation. The school is accredited by the Council of International School (CIS) and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) since 2013.
ARKIS is a certified Cambridge Examination Centre (CIE) from 2006 and Edexcel from 2013. The Cambridge curricula programmes are taught from KG to Grade 10, followed by the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) and Certificate Program (IBCP) in Grades 11 and 12.
We are extremely proud of our Creativity Action Service (CAS) Programme which encourages students to participate in community service programs locally and internationally through fund raising campaigns.
ARKIS also implements a whole brain development program; Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS) from KG2 to Grade 8.
The Abdul Rahman Kanoo Award Scholarship (AKAS) was established in 2010, to inspire students towards high academic and social achievement by granting them scholarships to study abroad in reputed universities and colleges.
The school’s philosophy revolves around nurturing every student’s potential and providing an inclusive environment where respect, responsibility, and innovation are key values. ARKIS prioritizes a holistic approach to education, integrating academic rigor with extracurricular activities and community involvement to shape well-rounded individuals prepared for the global stage.

ARKIS provides a comprehensive academic curriculum based on internationally recognized programs. From its Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) to the renowned Cambridge Primary and Secondary Programs, the school is designed to ensure a robust academic foundation for all students.
For younger learners, the curriculum begins with EYFS and IEYC, offering a stimulating environment where play-based learning helps develop cognitive, social, and physical skills. As students progress, they are introduced to the Cambridge Primary Program, followed by the Cambridge Lower Secondary Program, designed to enhance their academic capabilities in preparation for more advanced studies.
At the secondary level, ARKIS implements the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) for Grades 9 and 10, which challenges students to develop in-depth knowledge in various subjects. Following this, students in Grades 11 and 12 can opt for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), one of the most prestigious pre-university qualifications recognized worldwide. ARKIS also integrates the Ministry of Education’s curriculum for Arabic, Islamic studies, and social studies to maintain a strong connection to local culture, while enriching the Arabic language curriculum with the Lebanese Arabic program to cater to diverse linguistic needs.
