ABOUT THE SCHOOL : An Introduction

ABDUL RAHMAN KANOO SCHOOL DIYAR (ARKS) is an international private school Driven by the Board of Trustees, the new campus was designed with the ethos of the late Founder’s vision, ABDUL RAHMAN KANOO SCHOOL DIYAR (ARKS) provides high-quality education that empowers its students to be successful and principled citizens in the local and global community. Every ARKS Diyar student has ample opportunities to flourish outside of the classroom- whether through sports, the creative and performing arts or any other activity, our students have every opportunity to get involved and excel in their chosen fields. 

The campus and staff will offer not only quality but also a range of learning and enrichment opportunities that helps to ensure every student has the opportunity to reach their greatest potential. 

Initially it will support students from Nursery to Year 9, with the vision to grow with each student till they reach their graduation from High School in Yr. 13. The Pre-School (Nursery and Reception) and Primary School (Yr. 1 to Yr. 5) are dedicated to providing individual care and education for children.

The campus and staff will offer not only quality but also a range of learning and enrichment opportunities that helps to ensure every student has the opportunity to reach their greatest potential.

The school is committed to our local, regional and international community. We believe we have a responsibility to help those less privileged through genuine and sustainable service opportunities. Through camps, service-based learning and student-led action projects, we envisage regular school charity events that strive to make a difference, as was our Founders core values of: Integrity, Excellence, Service, Internationalism and respect for persons and the environment. I believe this will make well rounded citizens as was the wish of our late Founder.

Meet Dr. Sara Mehkari | Deputy Head of Primary School

I am a doctor turned teacher with a strong belief that teaching positive psychology to children from a young age can significantly impact their lives. Having worked for start-up schools in Bahrain and outside, I understand the importance of establishing a robust and well-rounded education framework for a new school within the initial years of launching. I am thrilled to be working for ARKS and my strong passion for educating children, not just for their academic challenges but also for their future falls, directly in line with the late founder Mr. Abdul Rahman Jassim Kanoo’s dream “that the younger generation will grow into committed citizens’’.

Meet Mrs Katrina McLernon | Deputy Head of Preschool

I am proud to be the Deputy Head of Preschool at the ARKS Diyar campus. Meet Mrs Reem Matar | Head of the Admissions Department

ARKS Diyar is excited to introduce our first employee- Mrs. Reem Matar: Head of the Admissions Department. Her skill set will be a great addition to the school with her local knowledge and regional expertise within education. Her background in marketing and knowledge of international schools’ means she understands the uniqueness of ARKS Diyar and is able to admit and recruit like-minded parents and students, who subscribe to the school’s ethos and outlook, to what this innovative and environmentally sound SMART school provides. 

She has welcomed admissions from the 1st of February 2022, when the website went LIVE. “ I am excited to be part of the founding team at ARKS Diyar and supporting its growth and development as an outstanding educational institution. I believe in the school’s holistic approach and the late Founders words, which resonate with me, in the ability to continue to offer education based on its principles of commitment and innovation to all people of the Kingdom of Bahrain.”

Academics Overview

We believe that all children learn through Inquiry based learning which is delivered via the British Curriculum that ARKS Diyar has to offer. The curriculum has been developed to embrace and combine British Curriculum with the goal of laying and building on foundations for our student’s success, in aspect of his or her school life at ARKS Diyar. This means and includes aspects such as emotional and physical development, language and communication. The syllabus is a targeted approach of which the teachers are responsible for designing teaching programmes around such and to take into account resources, expertise, school priorities and most importantly- students learning styles.

Regular and ongoing assessment for learning, enables teachers to make professional judgments about student achievement and to adjust the teaching programme to support each student’s learning. Regular and specific feedback is provided for both students and parents to further support effective learning via our innovative and “smart education campus”, which makes the classroom accessible to parents and students. With an educational history in Bahrain of 25 years’ experience in education (1997), we are on the only private school in Bahrain with two campuses now (2022) under Abdulrahman Kanoo’s educational structure.

School Facilites Overview

The campus, built on a plot size of 26,608 sqm offers an innovative and environmentally driven approach. Solar panels and wind turbines will see ARKS Diyar being the first school in the Kingdom to harness such power. Secured outside learning spaces, indoor play area, rooftop gardens, and recycling of the rainwater for irrigation systems.

The modern and unique architecture offers double the recommended space per student (required by the Ministry of Education), with 269 underground car park spaces. Functional oversized corridors means’ the school is equipped for interactive and inclusive sessions providing rich learning opportunities. FIBA approved basketball court, FIFA certified football pitches- four multipurpose courts and an indoor basketball court with spectators seating and locker rooms. The use of light and colour enhance the school which is dedicated to a holistic, intercultural learning and personalised development for our learners within our changing world. This is further reflected and thought- out by the Schools Mission and Vision and therefore the schools core values.

Designated drop off areas- with safeguarding measures at the centre of all decisions, including those with our staff and partners. The plan is to also monitor your child’s journey to and from school. All staff across the school will have full child protection and safeguarding training and vetting.

Information

  • Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Nursery: Play-based learning focused on personal, social, and emotional development, language skills, and early literacy and numeracy 
  • International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) KG1: Engages children in interactive and inquiry-based learning, promoting curiosity and social-emotional growth through projects and thematic learning.
  • Oxford International Curriculum in KG2: Lays the foundation for structured learning with a focus on literacy, numeracy, and cognitive skills through interactive methods.
  • Oxford International Curriculum for Primary and Secondary (Years 1-9): A combination of core subjects including English, Maths, Science, and Arabic, enriched with Digital Literacy, Well-being, and Project-Based Learning (PBL). Critical thinking, creativity, and global citizenship are key focuses.
  • Ministry of Education curriculum for Arabic, Islamic Studies, Social Studies, and Citizenship: Followed in all grades, enriched with global perspectives to ensure students receive culturally relevant and comprehensive education.
  • At ARKS Diyar, Mandarin is introduced as part of the curriculum starting from Key Stage 2 (Year 3) and continues through the higher grades. It is available to all students, contributing to the school’s commitment to multilingual education and cultural diversity

The primary language of instruction is English, Other language studies include Arabic, Mandarin & Islamic Studies.

For Year 2 to Year 9 students, there are written and oral entrance assessments. Summative assessments are conducted at the end of topics to track student progress, and regular feedback is provided through termly report cards.

The school operates under the Ministry of Education (MOE) regulations and is part of the Abdulrahman Kanoo Educational Group, with over 25 years of experience in Bahrain’s education sector
