The Sacred Heart School, Kingdom of Bahrain has been to the forefront of multinational education for over sixty-five years. Since its establishment in 1940’s it has instilled in each of its students its core values of academic excellence, ethical behaviour and character formation. The level of the school’s achievement in nurturing its students with these values is evident by the accomplishments of its former pupils.

The Sacred Heart School is located in Isa Town, the Kingdom of Bahrain offers a British education. The Education imparted by the Apostolic Carmel is geared towards the achievement of the highest standards of intellectual, spiritual, personal, and ethical excellence by using the creative skills of the 21st Century and enhancing life-long learning, paving a pathway to be responsible citizens equipped to work for the transformation of society in ‘Love and Truth’ within the global community.

Sacred Heart School Bahrain offers IGCSE, from Edexcel International. The most up-to-date international qualification available from the UK. Studying new IGCSE will provide our students with an exceptional standard of education which is both modern and relevant.

The main language of instruction is English, while Arabic, French, Hindi or Filipino languages are offered as a mandatory second language option. It is affiliated to the Sacred Heart Church, Manama, Bahrain.

ACADEMIC INFORMATION AT A GLANCE

Sacred Heart School, Bahrain offers a robust and future-ready academic programme through the International GCSE (IGCSE) and International Advanced Level (IAL) qualifications, delivered under Pearson Edexcel International, one of the UK’s most recognized awarding bodies. These internationally benchmarked qualifications provide students with a modern, comprehensive, and globally relevant education, preparing them for success at university and beyond.

Information

Students begin their IGCSE journey in Senior 3 (Grade 9). The curriculum includes both compulsory and optional subjects that allow students to build a strong academic foundation while also exploring individual interests.

Compulsory subjects include:

  • English Language B

  • Mathematics

  • Religious Studies (Islam & Christianity)

  • One second language from Arabic, French, Hindi, or Filipino

Optional subjects offer a diverse selection:

  • Physics or Accounting

  • Chemistry or ICT

  • Business Studies or Biology

 

The IAL programme runs through Senior 5 and 6 (Grades 11 and 12), with the final Edexcel International Advanced Level examinations taken in May or June of Senior 6. Students are offered a combination of core and elective subjects to align with their university and career goals.

Compulsory IAL subjects include:

  • English Language

  • Mathematics or Environmental Management

Optional IAL subjects include:

  • Mathematics or English Literature

  • Physics or Accounting

  • Chemistry or Information Technology

  • Business or Biology

Through this comprehensive academic pathway, Sacred Heart School ensures that students graduate well-prepared, both academically and personally, to meet the challenges of higher education and a competitive global landscape.

The students of Sacred Heart School appear for the following International Examinations.

  1. International Bench Mark Test [BT] The Australian Council for Educational Research [ACER] established in 1930 conducts International Bench Mark Tests in the Core Subjects. The tests provide a measure of Student performance, based on international Assessment standards. The school reports are useful for Remedial interventions and curriculum Planning.
  2. TIMMS [Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study] is an internationally recognized, valia and reliable measure of comparative assessments of student achievement in Mathematics and Science at the fourth and eighth grades. It is conducted every four years. More than 60 countries participate in TIMSS.
  3. PIRLS [Progress in International Reading Literacy Study] is an International Examination that is conducted to Measure the effectiveness of the educational systems in a global context. PIRLS provides internationally comparative data on how well children read by assessing students’ reading achievement. PIRLS collects considerable background information on how education systems provide educational opportunities to their students, as well as the factors that influence how students use these opportunities.
  4. National Examinations are conducted by the Directorate of National Examinations on behalf of the Quality Education and Training Authority. The main objectives of the Directorate of national examinations are summarized as follows: 
  • Independently assess the Kingdom of Bahrain students’ performance in Grades:3, 6, and 9 in the core subjects: Arabic, English, Mathematics and Science, and for Grade 12: Arabic, English and Problem-Solving.
  • Develop test specifications according to the national curriculum and in line with international standards.
  • Develop examinations that are valid, reliable and fit for purpose.
  • Communicate with all concerned stakeholders in an effective and sustainable manner, to contribute towards improving and developing the education system in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  • Every candidate for admission needs to be introduced in person to the Principal by one who will be responsible, for the child.
  • Only those who have completed 4 years are eligible for admission into the Lower Kindergarten.
  • Application for Admission is to be made in the prescribed form which can be obtained, at the time of admission only.
  • Admission to other classes, only if there is a vacant seat. Students from other schools will be tested before they are admitted to their respective classes.
  • It is essential that a photocopy of the original Birth Certificate, CPR, and Passport be submitted at the time of admission.
  • Students coming from other schools cannot be admitted without the Leaving Certificate, which must be countersigned by the Inspecting Authority of that State.
  • Applications for the withdrawals are to be made in the prescribed form given in the School Diary and submitted to the Principal at least a fortnight prior to their leaving.
  • Leaving Certificates will be issued only after all dues to the school have been paid and library books etc. are returned.
