English is the medium of instruction; however, Arabic, the mother tongue of Bahrain, is a core subject taught in sets according to children’s prior experience.
Our school is reputed to offer the best UK-based education in Bahrain. As experienced educators, we understand that in addition to delivering a stellar curriculum, teachers are responsible for supporting learners to become well-rounded, knowledgeable young people.
As an inclusive school, we are family-oriented and pride ourselves on our close relationships with parents. Our nurturing environment gives children the space and freedom to embrace their individuality and they achieve great things as a result.
We offer a well-balanced foundation from Nursery to Sixth Form. The school’s Three Pillar Approach centres on Academics, Sports and Creative Arts and offers meaningful opportunities for students to not only gain broad-ranging skills but the personal qualities they need to thrive.

The BSB Infant School - Kindergarten
MRS. JULIE ANNE GILBERT, HEAD OF INFANT SCHOOL
Welcome to the British School of Bahrain’s Infant school. Our community of teachers, parents, children and support staff includes people from a very wide range of backgrounds and nationalities. A sense of mutual respect and warmth is fundamentally important to us at all levels.
Academically, children are very much treated as individuals, with their own strengths, weaknesses and quirks. They are encouraged to do their “very best” in everything they undertake. We have found that our high challenge/low stress environment tends to bring the best out in our pupils.
Although we take teaching and learning very seriously indeed, we are in no doubt that a sense of humour is a vital ingredient in any infant school.
Teachers are approachable and genuinely interested in children. It would be rare to see any teacher or assistant crossing the playground at break-time without stopping for an informal chat with a group of children.
Our aim is for children to be secure in themselves as individuals, enthusiastic collaborators and open communicators. We are proud of the fact that visitors to the school often comment that the children appear to be sociable, unspoiled and in some ways refreshingly unsophisticated.
Infant School Curriculum Overview
Our Kindergarten in Hamala, Bahrain welcomes children into a diverse, caring and inclusive community. We are committed to offering the best start in life to the young children in our care by supporting each individual as they develop a love of learning through exploration.
We deliver the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1 in a British Infant School setting. Our Kindergarten comprises four years: Nursery and Reception, and Key Stage 1, which is Years 1 and 2. Children aged 3 to 7 may join us at any point in the academic year.
Nursery & Reception
When they embark on their BSB journey in their Nursery year, children learn to think, reason and explore through play. They are scaffolded, supported and challenged by caring, experienced teachers to primarly develop their social skills, language and physical development.
When ready, children are stretched in literacy, maths, creative art and understanding of the world. A spirit of enquiry is encouraged and permeates the Infant School. A rigorous pre-reading curriculum in Nursery, prepares children for high attainment in reading in their Reception year.
KEY STAGE 1 - EARLY YEARS - Years 1 & 2
The curriculum is dynamic and responsive to the needs and interests of the children cross curricular links are made wherever possible to make learning meaningful for the children. Much thought is given to making learning engaging and fun. Academic rigour continues throughout Year 1 and 2 following National curriculum of England and Wales.
