BRITISH PREPARATORY SCHOOL
ABOUT THE SCHOOL : An Introduction
The British Preparatory School – Where Every Child’s Journey Begins with Heart and Purpose
Founded in 2008 and located in the heart of Saar on Saar Avenue, The British Preparatory School (BPS) offers a warm, nurturing environment where children aged 18 months to 6 years old thrive. We deliver the British and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum through a carefully balanced approach that blends purposeful play with structured academic learning.

Recognised as Bahrain’s Flagship School of Excellence for Best Practices in Early Years Education by the Bahrain Quality Authority (BQA), BPS continues to set the benchmark for early childhood learning across the Kingdom.
At BPS, we champion a child-centred philosophy that encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and independence. Our children are active participants in their learning—engaging in discovery-led activities that lay strong foundations for future academic success and lifelong critical thinking skills.
Our track record speaks for itself. BPS has consistently prepared children for a smooth transition into Bahrain’s leading schools, including St Christopher’s, the British School of Bahrain, and other top private institutions.
These successful pathways are underpinned by our outstanding early years education and strong partnerships with the wider school community.
All our teaching staff are native English speakers who ensure a safe, language-rich learning environment. We pride ourselves on our close-knit, friendly atmosphere—earning us the reputation of being ‘The Small School with a Big Heart’.

GENERAL OVERVIEW
At the British Preparatory School we nurture a love of reading by encouraging children to listen to stories and share books. With regular sing songs and rhymes together with structured English lessons to help develop diction and language. Through guided and free play the children are able to develop their social skills. We encourage them to become independent both in their self help skills and in the organisation of their activities and in looking after the resources. All the time ensuring they feel confident and secure.
BPS Curriculum Overview
At BPS the curriculum is designed to recognise children’s prior learning, provide first hand learning experiences, allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers. Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our diverse school community and promote that children will need to become responsible and pro-active citizens. Our focus is to raise aspirations and engender a sense of pride in achievement, provide a purpose and relevance for learning and to ultimately allow every child to discover their strengths and interests.

Our curriculum is underpinned by a clear vision for every child to learn to embrace diversity and to demonstrate our five core values : Consideration, Courtesy, Co-operation, Commitment and Care. These values represent both the ethos of the school and the qualities that we feel children will need to be successful learners and prepare them for life beyond infant school.
We recognise the importance of vocabulary and aim to ensure that children are provided with opportunities throughout the curriculum to broaden the range of language at their disposal. We also understand that the issues children experience in our local community must be acknowledged in order to make the curriculum relevant and memorable.
Children will have the opportunity to listen to many stories and hopefully learn to love books. Once the children have progressed through the BPS pre-reading program involving audio and visual discrimination work, as well as fine and gross motor skills training, and once the child is ready to read, we will use the Oxford Reading Tree scheme.
LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
In partnership with Level Up, our dedicated after-school activity centre, BPS children benefit from an extended range of enrichment opportunities. From physical development and fitness to creative arts and academic support, Level Up provides a fun, engaging, and safe space for children to explore their interests, develop new skills, and build confidence beyond the school day.

Led by Experience, Guided by Passion
Under the leadership of our Principal, Mrs Smith—an experienced early years educator with a proven record of success in both Bahrain and Dubai—BPS offers rich, child-focused learning. Her expertise in developing reading and pre-reading programmes has enabled our children to consistently achieve well above national expectations.
We place strong emphasis on communication and literacy from the earliest stages. Through daily storytelling, songs, rhymes, and carefully structured lessons, children develop clear speech, vocabulary, and early reading skills. As they progress, they follow the Oxford Reading Scheme, build their sight vocabulary, and explore phonics through digraphs and blends—supported by engaging library visits and home reading.

Fine and gross motor development are embedded into daily activities to support handwriting, letter formation, and spatial awareness. Every learning opportunity is crafted to build confidence, independence, and a love for learning.
Mathematics is explored through meaningful contexts—such as cooking, baking, and games—that help children understand how numbers relate to the world around them. We ensure that every child has a firm grasp of mathematical concepts before moving forward.
In addition, our Year 1 children benefit from daily Arabic lessons, enriching their language skills and cultural understanding.
Above all, we strive to nurture well-rounded, confident, and compassionate learners. At BPS, children are encouraged to make choices, express ideas, and take ownership of their learning journey—all while feeling secure, supported, and valued.
