BRITISH PREPARATORY SCHOOL
ABOUT THE SCHOOL : An Introduction
Founded in 2008 and located in the heart of Saar, right on Saar Avenue, The British Preparatory School (BPS) offers the British and Early Years curriculum for children aged 18 months to 6 years old.
With a carefully crafted curriculum we deliver the perfect balance of play based learning and structured academic activities that enable our children to reach their full potential. We encourage learning though discovery and problem solving, creating a strong foundation for our future critical thinkers.
The British Preparatory School has been successfully preparing children for seamless entry into the top private schools in Bahrain and has built strong links with St Christopher’s School, BsB and Nadeen School to name a few.
All our teaching staff are native English speakers and all staff are fully vaccinated. We pride ourselves in creating an open and friendly family atmosphere which has led BPS to become known as ‘The Small School With A Big Heart’.
The Principal is Mrs Jasmine Smith. Mrs Smith has experience of activity based child centric approach to learning. She has developed excellent reading and pre-reading programmes that have led to children consistently achieving much higher than the national average.
Mrs. Jasmine Smith has an outstanding record of achievement working with infant and primary age children both in Dubai and Bahrain. The school focuses on child centered learning which facilitates the growth of every child through a combination of play and structured learning. We also offer a comprehensive Arabic program for Year 1 children.
GENERAL OVERVIEW
At the British Preparatory School we nurture a love of reading by encouraging children to listen to stories and share books. With regular sing songs and rhymes together with structured English lessons to help develop diction and language. Through guided and free play the children are able to develop their social skills. We encourage them to become independent both in their self help skills and in the organisation of their activities and in looking after the resources. All the time ensuring they feel confident and secure.
BPS Curriculum Overview
At BPS the curriculum is designed to recognise children’s prior learning, provide first hand learning experiences, allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers. Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our diverse school community and promote that children will need to become responsible and pro-active citizens. Our focus is to raise aspirations and engender a sense of pride in achievement, provide a purpose and relevance for learning and to ultimately allow every child to discover their strengths and interests.
Our curriculum is underpinned by a clear vision for every child to learn to embrace diversity and to demonstrate our five core values : Consideration, Courtesy, Co-operation, Commitment and Care. These values represent both the ethos of the school and the qualities that we feel children will need to be successful learners and prepare them for life beyond infant school.
We recognise the importance of vocabulary and aim to ensure that children are provided with opportunities throughout the curriculum to broaden the range of language at their disposal. We also understand that the issues children experience in our local community must be acknowledged in order to make the curriculum relevant and memorable.
Children will have the opportunity to listen to many stories and hopefully learn to love books. Once the children have progressed through the BPS pre-reading program involving audio and visual discrimination work, as well as fine and gross motor skills training, and once the child is ready to read, we will use the Oxford Reading Tree scheme.
