THE BAHRAIN SCHOOL

About The School : An Introduction

The Bahrain School was founded in August 1968 in Awali, as the Bahrain American Elementary School, a Department of Defense School with a staff of one teaching principal and three teachers. They provided for the educational needs of forty students in grades one through eight.

By 1970, the school began accepting English speaking Bahraini students and other non-Department of Defense sponsored students. With the addition of these students, the school grew rapidly until, by January 1972, the enrollment was approximately two hundred elementary and correspondence course secondary students. In January 1972, in expectation of even further expansion, the school was moved from Awali to a Twenty-Eight-Acre campus in Juffair.

The Bahrain School community empowers all students to achieve their maximum potential through rigorous standards-based instruction in an environment that respects diverse cultures. Bahrain School is a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) school.

It is located on the island nation of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the Arabian Gulf. The school was established to provide a quality education program for children in Bahrain and of U.S. military civilian personnel assigned to the U.S. Naval Support Activity Bahrain.

School Mission & Vision

Our mission is to Educate, Engage and Empower students to succeed in a dynamic world with a vision of Excellence in Education for Every Student, Every Day, Everywhere.

From the beginning, foresighted members of the community had anticipated the need for a comprehensive school originally encompassing both American and British Curricula. As a result of an immeasurable amount of donated time, energy and money, the Bahrain School emerged as it is today, with an American Curriculum for grades 6-12, and the opportunity to take Advanced Placement examinations for academically oriented students in grades 11 and 12. And integrated into all of this is a full Arabic as a First Language program for students holding an Arab passport.

AP Capstone Diploma Program

Bahrain School is the first to offer the AP Capstone Diploma Program in Bahrain! 🎓

We are one of approximately 2,500 schools worldwide to implement the AP Capstone Diploma program―an innovative program that encourages students to develop skills for college and career success, including critical thinking, research, collaboration, and communication!

The program consists of two year-long courses taken in sequence: AP Seminar and AP Research. Students who score a 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on 4 additional AP Exams of their choosing earn the AP Capstone Diploma.

This signifies outstanding academic achievement and attainment of college-level academic and research skills. Students who score a 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research (and not on 4 additional AP Exams) earn the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.

Our goal is to challenge your children intellectually, help them grow them socially, and guide them toward independent thinking and problem solving. As we strive to promote healthy development in all aspects of each student’s life, we also strive to develop a student body of good character; students who make good choices and decisions resulting in successful and healthy outcomes.

We encourage students to demonstrate the best of themselves every moment of every day and to make positive contributions to their classrooms and grade levels. We strive to instil within our student body a sense of personal pride as well as love and collective pride for our school. Academics - Bahrain Middle & High School

Grades 6-8 : Bahrain School helps middle school students transition from elementary school to high school. Our goal is to give sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders opportunities to work in a collaborative and academically rigorous environment.

Grades 9 – 12 : Bahrain School prepares high school students for college and career opportunities with an academic program that includes Advanced Placement courses, Extracurricular Activities, Athletic and Arts Programs, and various travel opportunities.

Advanced Placement (AP) courses : give students the chance to tackle college-level work while they’re still in high school— whether they’re learning online or in the classroom. And through taking AP Exams, students can earn college credit and placement.

Ms.Shana D.Seawright
Bahrain Middle / High School Principal

We are looking forward to an exceptional year. This year you will see both familiar and new faces within student and staff populations. Please ensure that you welcome everyone and show them how wonderful our school is.

We will continue to have high expectations for learning, behavior, and overall success. We will use our student performance data to ensure that our school goals are being met and any necessary changes will be made in order to bring about an even stronger focus on improving student achievement. You will be hearing more about these important areas of learning as the school year progresses.

Students, our philosophy regarding behaviour centers on three simple words. We believe that if we all work toward being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe, the school day runs smoothly. Remember that you never have a second chance to make a first impression. The way you present yourself to others tells who you are and what you value. Let’s work hard to be respectful towards one another and ourselves. Be responsible by abiding by the rules of the school, turning your work in on time, and keeping your promises. Be safe by looking out for each other and speaking up when you see someone being treated inappropriately. By being respectful, responsible, and safe, success will come naturally and our school will be a positive and productive place for learning!

Extra-Curricular Activities

Bahrain School’s Extracurricular activities include student participation in clubs, student government groups, sports teams and even through volunteer work at school or in the local community. These activities enrich and motivate ways which students can be active outside of the classroom setting.

Dormitory Philosophy

The aim in the Dormitory is to foster a supportive and caring community for students in Middle and High School, where the students value belonging to a wider family. Boarders learn how to live, to work, to take on responsibility, and socialize in an internationally diverse community.

Spacious and attractively decorated, the Dormitory combines basic necessities with modern conveniences. Boys and girls live in separate wings on both sides of the main reception area, and each wing has its own comfortable lounge, well-supplied kitchen area and laundry rooms.

Since its foundation, the Dormitory has been an integral part of life at the school. Approximately 20% of Secondary students are boarders.

The Dormitory located at the heart of the campus provides an excellent standard of accommodation, as well as easy access to educational and sporting facilities. Dormitory life is complemented by supervised study and after school activities programs.

The Bahrain School Dormitory program aims to create an environment where all dormitory students feel happy, secure, confident and are cared for by professional staff acting in loco parentis. This is achieved by:

  • Offering the opportunity for an appropriate work/life balance
  • Encouraging students to fully achieve their academic potential
  • Providing off-campus opportunities for personal development, adventure, sharing and enjoyment whilst living in Bahrain
  • Access to the required facilities for independent study and recreation
  • Entrusting students with personal and community responsibility, where they value shared experiences as an integral part of the school community.
  • Individuals are encouraged to be accountable and guided to make appropriate decisions by accepting the consequence of their actions
  • Encouraging self-discipline, self-respect and respect for others
  • Maintaining regular, effective communication with boarders families
  • Promoting an open and trusting ethos within the Dormitory
  • Enhancing boarders, confidence and independence as young learners, thereby providing skills for their lives beyond school
