Britus International School for Special Education caters to children, adolescents, and adults with special needs. It is guided by the principle that every individual has the right to education, regardless of abilities, race, social status, religion, or language.

As education is of immense value to every human being, we, at Britus, believe that no child is to be left behind.

Britus International School For Special Education is a premiere school that provides full-time and resource educational services to students with special needs such as:

  • Learning Difficulties
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Communication Disorders

  • Specific Learning Disability ( such us Dyslexia)
  • Down Syndrome (and other genetic or chromosomal disorders)

The General Characteristics Of The Britus Teaching Philosophy

  • It is dynamic : The lesson plan grows with the student. Teachers adapt to the changing demand according to the performance and needs of the student.
  • It is fun : The lessons and the curriculum are not limited to book resources, as teachers are encouraged to use multi-media and varying teaching materials to ensure participation and to adapt to the learning style of each child.
  • It is demanding : We are guided by goals and plans which every teacher target to achieve within assigned time boundaries.
  • It is realistic : The goals and methods of evaluation for every student are established and gathered by the members of the IEP team of every child. Parents are assured that evaluation of their child is a cooperative effort by professionals directly in contact with their child.
  • It is purposeful : We believe that special education is a specialized well-delivered education which is focused on the immediate and future needs of the learner. Regardless of level, we will meet the needs of each student.

Education System & Programs

Britus believes that each child, with proper guidance, can be a productive member of the society. Thus, the school adopted a curriculum and incorporated modifications that include the concept of functional academics. 

Functional academics focus on acquiring academic skills that have direct application in one’s life which ultimately leads to functional independent living. Modified core curriculum materials are presented in the special education classroom at the cognitive levels of the students.

Domains that comprise the curriculum of Britus :

  • Functional Academics – which focus, but not limited to, literacy, mathematics, and the use of information technology
  • Personal and Social development – gives emphasis on the areas of self-management, socio-emotional development and life skills that center on daily living and independence
  • Vocational Training – focuses on developing hard skills (career exposure and experience) and soft skills (socialization and emotional competence)
  • Recreation and Leisure – includes activities done during class time (Physical education, Arts and Craft, Music) and after-school activities (skills related to pursuing interests and can be done alone or with others)
  • Therapy Services and Counseling – provided to students who will need these services

Individualized Programs Include :

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Behavior Therapy
  • Art Therapy

Our Facilities

Throughout the sprawling building of Britus, are the fully equipped classrooms where your child will spend and enjoy most of the hours in each learning day. 

All classrooms have padded walls to ensure the safety of special needs learner. It has an onsite washroom, and the toilet and sink are designed with comparable heights for the students assigned in the classroom.

Each classroom is adequately provided with comfortable desks and chairs, overhead projectors, white board, and display panels/cupboards for the students’ accomplishments for the day. 

Other indoor facilities are the Library, Specialized rooms such as Sensory room, Indoor soft playroom, Science room, Life skills room, Arts room, Music room, Sewing room and Gym. 

Therapy rooms for Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy and Behaviour Therapy are available. 

Britus is also equipped with a multi-purpose hall which can accommodate up to 100 persons with social distancing. Outdoor facilities include Basketball Field, Football field and covered Playground.

Curriculum Overivew

Britus’s curriculum programs provide comprehensive teaching and learning that meet international standards while also reflecting and incorporating the cultures and traditions of the region.

The English Language Arts and Mathematics curricula are aligned with the US Common Core State Standards (CCSS), while the Science program is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Britus is a premiere school that provides full-time and resource educational services to students with special needs such as :

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related disorders
  • ADHD and other related disorders
  • Specific Learning disabilities
  • Intellectually challenged
  • Cerebral Palsy and other motor disorders
  • Other Chromosomal Disorders such as Cohen & Down Syndrome
  • Other Health Issues such as Seizure Disorders, G6PD

The Learning Programs of Britus are supported by :

  • IEP Goals based on parent and staff input and recommendations
  • Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Onsite therapists (Speech Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Behavior Analyst)
  • Emphasis on learning key competencies in English, Math Science and the Arabic language and culture
  • Dynamic linkages with families and communities through direct contacts and consultations and school-wide events
  • Life Skills training incorporated in the classes and individualized programs
  • Transition support in traversing the academic path and post school options

Academic Programs

The Special Education academic groups in Britus is a systematic grouping of students, who are assigned to a respective grouping according to skills and level of independence. 

Each class has organized teaching procedures, adaptive teaching materials and equipment, accommodated settings and individualized education plans in response to the specific needs of the special learner.

Britus is committed to being active partners in the wholistic development of the special learner.

The Post - 16 Program

The goal of the Post – 16 program is to develop life skills that will help our students as they transition to adult life. The life coach and vocational team focus on the student’s functional academic skills such as counting, following procedures and planning. 

These learned skills are then applied by working in the areas in the school such as the office, library and home economics room, which are the integrated to the students, with the end goal to do grocery, shopping and making schedules and appointments, thereby acquiring independence and maturity at home or living independently.
