THE CHILDREN'S HOUSE MONTESSORI KINDERGARTEN

ABOUT THE KINDERGARTEN : An Introduction

The Children’s House is the first Montessori Kindergarten in Bahrain, established in 1997. We are a MEAB accredited Montessori Kindergarten and a member of MSA – The Montessori Schools Association United Kingdom.

At the core of Montessori Method is the belief that all teaching, to be truly effective, must be child-centered. At The Children’s House, we follow this principal at all times. Our school is nonselective and children are taught as individuals, encouraged to strengthen their weaker points and to excel in their stronger areas.

We aim to provide a safe, secure and happy environment. In this environment your child can be guided through the Montessori education system by qualified Montessori staff with a full understanding of the Montessori Method. We will help your child to find their own potential and independence and whilst on this journey of self-discovery, aid them in becoming a balanced, well-mannered and confident individual.

The Children’s House offers Montessori Education for children aged 3 years to 6 years.

  • Montessori One (Nursery) 3 years – 4 years
  • Montessori Two (KG1/Reception) 4 years – 5 years
  • Montessori Three (KG2/Year 1) 5 years – 6 years

Kindergarten Overview

The Montessori learning programme aims to develop a child’s self-motivation, independence, and self-respect. It places no restraints on a child’s ability and provides children with a step-by-step understanding of both complex and abstract concepts through she/he uses concrete materials. A child’s early years, from birth to six is the period when he or she has the greatest capacity to learn and the greatest appetite for knowledge. It is during these early years that the foundation is laid for all their future learning, for their sense of themselves, their confidence, self-esteem, respect and interest in the world around. The prepared Montessori environment is the home to nurture these vital skills.

The Children’s House is a unique feature of the “prepared environment” that every object in the classroom has a specific place and purpose. The classroom is a child-sized world, with chairs, tables, and shelves, in the appropriate size. Our classrooms are large, bright, and beautifully arranged, designed for the child’s comfort, security, and enjoyment. The activities are arranged on low shelving units within reach of even the smallest children. Children may work, uninterrupted, for long periods of time at tables or on small mats on the floor where they are naturally comfortable.

The special qualities of the teachers and the unique classroom environment combine to allow the maximum opportunity for intellectual growth at the same time promoting emotional and social development and self-control, thus enabling the child to reach their full potential.

Why Parents Choose Montessori Method Education ?

Maria Montessori pioneered the Montessori Method of Education early this century. In developing this method of education she combined philosophy with a practical approach based on the idea of freedom and independence for the child but within a structured environment.

The Montessori Method takes into consideration the child’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social abilities and develops these in a specially prepared environment. What is most unique about the method is the detailed emphasis given to sensorial experiences, developing the five senses and providing a solid foundation for speech, writing, and arithmetic.

We recognize that children want to learn and it is vital that they are taught how to learn and through the Montessori method the child will gain this ability, thus creating a solid base on which they can build for their future learning. We want to help your child become a balanced, well-mannered and confident individual, and we believe the Montessori education system will give a flying start at their next school and for life.

Our Montessori Classrooms

The first aspect parents notice when entering a Montessori classroom for the first time is the quiet and calm atmosphere of the children busy at work! The Montessori classroom can be a bewildering place for parents who for the first time watch what is happening in the classroom. The equipment looks attractive and interesting but very different from the toys you are used to seeing your child play with at home. The teacher seems very fussy about the way the children handle the equipment yet no-one will appear to be controlling what they choose to work with or how long they work with it. The children all seem confident and calm, working quietly, tidying up after themselves and sharing their time and equipment.

The unique Montessori environment is carefully planned; every item is designed to meet the needs of your child. It is a child-sized world where the adults treat the children in their care with respect and understanding, guiding them through their most important years of learning. The child has the freedom to make their own choices and work freely with equipment that interests and stimulates them.

The activities they have to choose from are carefully selected by the teachers and provide variety, interest, and the necessary learning properties to stimulate your child. All the exercises have an in-built control of error, which enables the child to work with it on their own but guides them in reaching the correct conclusion.

On entering The Children’s House Montessori School your child will be working sub-consciously towards the goals of reading, writing, and arithmetic from the very beginning.

A good example to use to show this is writing: to first strengthen a child’s fingers in preparation to hold a pencil without tiring, the teacher will encourage the child to use his pincer grip to hold the knobs on the wooden blocks you will see on the sensorial shelves.

The child will be shown how to grip tweezers in the same way when using them to transfer beads from one bowl to another when doing practical life work. They will then go onto to learn the shapes of the letters; as the child runs their fingers across sandpaper letters and mouths the sounds, the whole multi-sensory experience is absorbed.

The child will then go on to become dexterous enough to draw the shapes with a pencil.

We are very lucky to have put both boys under your care. There is so much warmth and patience here. Our boys need it so much. The most important thing is that they are happy here. It is so amazing how much they have learned since they joined The Children's House Montessori School. We appreciate very much your dedication to the individual development of every child. It is so important, especially for our eldest who is a very unique and special child. We doubt if he would be able to learn more or feel better in any other place. His supportive, caring teachers are always a great help for us. We hope that today we are together building the best foundation for our son's achievements in the future. Our younger son joined the Montessori when he was very young, so we were a bit afraid to see how he would deal with the change. Your wonderful help makes his transition very smooth and he loves attending school. - Dr. and Mrs. Wojciech

We have sent our two daughters to The Children's House for the past three years and are so sad to leave this special community as we depart Bahrain this summer. The school is true to the Montessori Method, treating each child as a unique and capable individual. We have been so proud to observe our daughters' amazing progress at the school, taking leaps and bounds in reading vocabulary, math life skills, care for their envirnment, and empathy towards others. Most importantly, we have been so pleased to watch how the school has fostered our girls' love of learning, which we are confident they will carry for their lifetimes. Consistent with the philosophy of Maria Montessori, The Children's House belives in each child and grants him or her the freedom to progress at the child's own pace, providing tailored instruction for each individual while simultaneously fostering a sense of community. The school goes the extra mile in ensuring high quality of teachers, cutting edge learning materials, musical edcucation, physical education, arts and crafts, cooking and practical life skills, andc a cozy environment. Our children are th=rilled to go to shcool every day and we feel confident that they are flourishing in a safe and nurturing place. The parent community at The Children's House is also very special. Our children benefit from this unique multicultural community, in which parents come together several times a year to organize special events for the school and teach our young about our respective cultures, cuisines, and traditions. We sincerely thank The Children's House for helping provide our girls with the best possible foundation we could have asked for in their young lives. - Maria and Beth's Parents

Thanks a lot to The Children's House family. Our son has improved a lot since he joined your school in January 2015. He is a very happy boy in here and likes to come to school every day. We are sad that he will leave the school next year to join the big school. His younger brother will be joining The Children's House once he is old enough. We wish that the school could expand to higher age groups so that our children could spend more years in the nurturing and caring environment of The Children's House! -Mr. and Mrs. Alashoor
