THE BRITISH COUNCIL BAHRAIN
About The Centre : An Introduction
At the British Council in Bahrain, we work to build relationships between people and institutions in the UK and the Kingdom of Bahrain through programmes and events in the areas of Education, English, Arts and Society. Much of what we do in Bahrain has an international dimension involving countries in Middle East and North Africa.
The British Council’s first office in Bahrain was established in 1941. As a world leader in teaching English, we have taught many thousands of students in Bahrain at our language centre. In addition to teaching English, we also support collaboration in other areas and work closely with local institutions. We work closely with the Ministry of Education on teacher development and on a reading programme for children. Over 30,000 people in Bahrain use our on-line resources for independent learning of English each year.
Our teaching methodology encourages creativity in language use, promotes learner independence and develops confidence so students are better equipped for their next steps in English.
Our goal is to give all learners a positive, enjoyable, challenging and successful experience of studying English.

Students on our kids (3-5 years) courses:
We believe students learn most effectively when they are engaged, motivated and challenged. We recognise that each student learns and develops at different rates so our courses respect each student’s developmental stage. Our teachers use a range of age-appropriate techniques and resources ensuring the most effective language learning experience.
We expect our students to take an active role in their own learning and reflect on their progress. Our approach covers all aspects of communication with an emphasis on developing confidence in speaking to equip students with the English they will need for future academic study, employment and social situations.
- will develop independence and social skills through our holistic approach to language learning focusing on confidence building, socialisation and language literacy skills
- will build a love for language through the early-literacy phonic strategies which equip them with the confidence needed for reading
- develop the skills needed for a successful transition to Primary classes.
Students on our kids (6-10 years) courses:
Children at this age benefit from established class routines and are capable of longer periods of concentration in a classroom setting. Learners are still developing concepts, literacy and numeracy in their first language and our carefully selected English course content supports this.
Students on our kids courses:
- cover topics of interest to children and relate these to their own experiences
- increase their confidence and interest in the English language
- learn and practise a wide range of language functions
- are exposed to natural language through activities giving them a real purpose to communicate in familiar and meaningful situations
- extend their knowledge of the world
- develop thinking and problem-solving skills and model universal values and behaviour.
